Abstract:
From the early 1990s Canon, a leading manufacturer of copying machinesand cameras, witnessed a decline in its fortunes. The profitability of the company declined with several of its divisions reporting losses. To turn the fortunes of the company around, Fujio Mitarai (Mitarai) was appointed as Canon's president in 1995 and then as its CEO in 1997. Mitarai undertook restructuring strategies, which led to Canon turning its fortunes around.
